If you’re anything like me, you’re constantly praying for guidance. “God, please just show me what to do. Give me a sign. Close the doors that need closing and open the ones that need opening. And help me SEE the signs. Help.”

I think one way God helps you is through your intuition. But in this busy world, it can be hard to hear what your intuition is trying to tell you. Most people don’t have a solid meditation practice where they get still and listen for the guidance to come through.

A lot of people have pushed down their intuition too. They’ve learned to suppress or ignore it. Or, they’re scared to trust it. Trauma. ‘Nough said.

I guess it’s a good thing that intuition isn’t the only way to hear God’s guidance then huh? There’s another way that’s a lot of fun to dig into.

Dreams- Your Unopened Mail

Dreams are an underrated way of hearing guidance. Yes, sometimes a dream is just a dream, no guidance, just you processing what has been happening in your life. But many times there are lessons or messages to be heard if you dig in a little, especially if you’re asking for guidance and feel like it hasn’t been coming through.

How do you know which dream is just a dream and which dream is a message? Practice. The more you pay attention to your dreams, the more you’ll be able to tell the difference. And that’s not even a crap assignment. Paying attention to your dreams is really interesting. (Actually I’m a total nerd for it and think it’s so fun!)

How silly is it that these messages are constantly coming through and you just don’t notice? It’s like getting constant emails from God, and all you have to do is open them. It’s so easy! And it’s fun. And yet so few people tap into the power of dreams.

Once you start doing it I think you’ll feel the same. (Please message me if you do because I’m a total nerd for it).

The biggest challenge is learning to remember your dreams. Some people have paid so little attention to dreams that they think they don’t dream at all. I’m no dream scientist but I’m pretty sure I heard somewhere that’s not possible. But if it is, it’s not that common. So, chances are, you dream, you just haven’t remembered them. Yet.

How to Remember Your Dreams

Here’s what I do when I’m trying to remember my dreams. Firstly, it doesn’t matter if you woke up in the middle of the night because you had to pee, or woke up to an alarm or the sun shining in your face. It doesn’t matter how or when you wake up. But try to notice that you’re waking up. That’s the part that takes practice.

Secondly, if you open your eyes, close them again. If you haven’t opened them yet, keep them closed. Then, as you’re noticing you’re waking up, start to think about what you were just experiencing. What were you just thinking about, dreaming of, or imagining? Where were you? Who were you with? What was happening and how did you feel about what was happening?

Run through the whole experience in your mind. As much as you can remember. If you’re new to this you might not remember very much. That’s okay. As you keep trying, you’ll start to remember more and more.

Once you have a mild grasp on what you were dreaming about, open your eyes and write it down. I keep a notebook and a booklight by my bed. You can also use the notes app on your phone.

Don’t fool yourself into thinking you’ll remember the dream without writing it down. You won’t. Most, if not all, will drift away as the waking hours come upon you. I promise. Write it down.

You can’t analyze a dream you don’t remember. And you won’t remember a dream you don’t write down. And you won’t be able to write down a dream if you don’t take a second in the still-sleepy phase to run through the dream in your mind. Got it? Okay. Moving on.

Dreams Don’t Make Sense

Maybe the dream seems like it doesn’t make sense at all. Most of them are going to feel that way. On the surface level you dreamed Taylor Swift was selling you leggings at her concert. Makes no sense.

But you can’t analyze your dream with your dream brain. While having the dream, and even writing it down, it won’t seem to have any real-life correlations. It’ll seem like it’s random and ridiculous. But later, when your awake brain is in the driver’s seat, it’s easier to see what the message is.

I’ll share with you a real dream I had and what I discovered the message was:

7/11/19

I was going to a school that teaches you how to live off the land. I felt like I was in my 20’s. I was wandering through the forest with 2 men. One was young like me and was my boyfriend. The other was older and I called him godfather. I don’t remember much about the boyfriend. Godfather had short dark hair, a handsome face, and I trusted him. The forest caught fire and there was smoke everywhere. We got separated. I was looking for the boyfriend but found godfather. Then I lost godfather while I was still searching for the boyfriend. Then godfather found me again, and he gave me this knowing, almost humorous look and said “How bout you just stay next to me and we’ll find our way out?” And then we did.

While having that dream, it seemed so random. None of it made sense to me. Writing it down didn’t really clear it up either. But when I went back and read it with my waking brain, it seemed pretty clear to me. I bet it seems clear to you too reading it now (since I’d assume you’re reading this while awake haha). Some of it won’t be obvious to you since you’re not me, with my life experiences. But that’s why this is so powerful to do for yourself. You see things others wouldn’t.

I was in nature. Something I didn’t get into much at that time. But nature always makes me feel closer to the divine. I feel like inspiration comes through easier there. Like I’m closer to God. I was also spending a lot of time chasing men. I’ve been doing that pretty much my whole life. Chasing guys. Wrapping my world around them, where they are, what they want me to do. And yet the boyfriend kept getting lost to me. Because that’s never been what I’m supposed to be focused on.

Stop chasing what isn’t meant for you. Not that men aren’t meant for me, but it’s not my soul purpose. Then the godfather, a guide through the smoke. Any time I’m going through something hard I’m always trying to find my way out on my own (and save the others). I forget that I have someone watching out for me, guiding me to where I am safe, where I’m meant to be.

I think that’s what the dream was telling me. To trust the guidance. Watch for it and stop chasing what’s not meant for me. What’s meant for me will find me like the godfather did in the smoke.

When I woke from this dream it FELT important. It didn’t just feel like some dream. And those are the dreams you should really pay attention to. Those ones tend to have more powerful or important messages.

But even the smaller dreams can hold beautiful little insights. And dreams that repeat. I’ve had the same dream about being in a prison and being shown around by the guard. If I had never started writing my dreams down, I wouldn’t have noticed. One time while having the dream again, I remember telling the guard in the dream that I remember being here before. The guard smiled at me knowingly and said “Yes you have.” Goosebumps!!!

Try to tell me dreams don’t have secret messages. Just try! I won’t believe you. I’ve had too many crazy cool experiences with this.

My Challenge to You

This week, I want to challenge you to try to remember your dreams every morning. Put a notebook by your bed, and before you go to sleep, tell yourself you’re going to remember your dreams. You can also try saying a little prayer to ask God to help you remember. (You don’t have to believe in God to do dream interpretation either. The dreams come even if you don’t believe.)

Then every morning, remember to close your eyes and run through what you can remember of your dream. Open your eyes and write it down right away. Then later, come back to it and see if you can figure out what it’s trying to tell you.

If you do this challenge, I’d love to hear what you experience.

And if you get really into dreams you can check out a book called “The Alchemy of Your Dreams” by Athen Laz. I found it to be one of the best resources for all things dream.

Check it out and please let me know what cool experiences you have with this. I’d really enjoy that! Love you!
